MODEL 4E SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 177107. Bbl. 30". The Flues started production in 1908 & remained in production until the introduction of the NID in 1926. About 200,000 were made. The early guns of this grade continued the fine scroll & detailed game scene engraving of the earlier models until the introduction of the newer style. This attractive gun has 30” Krupp steel bbls. w/ flat matted rib. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ S#. Case hardened action features non-automatic safety & gold plated dbl. triggers. Action is engraved w/ approx. 50% coverage, attractively cut & shaded scroll w/ in line & geometric borders surrounding nicely detailed dog scenes w/ pointing pointer on left & setter on right. “ITHACA GUN CO.” is above each scene. Triggerplate is near fully engraved & has central scene of quaking duck flying over shoreline. A snipe is on blued triggerguard bow. S# is on tang. Water table is stamped w/ S#, Grade “4” & ga. Well figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/2" over ribbed hard rubber buttplate. Typical Grade 4 fleur-de-lis checkering w/ ribbons through pattern is at grip & a vacant gold shield is on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend w/ inlet ebony tip has J spring & push button release. MEASUREMENTS:BORE DIA.: Left .726. Right .726. BORE RESTRICTIONS: Left .035 Full. Right .035 Full. WALL THICKNESS: Left .032. Right .032. DAH: 3". DAC: 1 7/8". WEIGHT: 7 lbs 11 oz. CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Bbls. retaining over 90% original blue w/ some scattered light scratches & some rubs through in front of fences. Action retains 85-90% original muted case hardening color w/ some silvering & thinning on high edges & around bottom. Top lever & triggerguard retain over 70% of their original blue. Triggers retain nearly all of their gold plate. Stocks retain approx. 90% original varnish finish perhaps brightened w/ some added oil. Checkering very lightly worn. Forend iron shows evidence of having some welded repair & there are areas of wood replacement either side at rear. Restoration is well done & repairs are almost unnoticeable. Bores are bright & shiny w/ no evidence of dents or repairs. Action is tight. Mechanically fine. (21-3365/MGM). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.
