Gerard Curtis Delano (1890-1972), Touch of Autumn, signed lower right, oil on board, c. 1930, 22 ½ x 24 inches. Acquired from a Private Collection, Denver
Gerard Curtis Delano was born in Marion, Massachusetts. He began his art studies in New Bedford Massachusetts and in 1910, studied under George Bridgman at the Art Students League. He went on to study at the Grand Central School of Art under Dean Cornell, Harvey Dunn and N.C. Wyeth.
Delano was a successful commercial artist and illustrator in New York City during World War I. He first visited the West in 1919 where he found work as a hand on a Colorado ranch. In 1920, he filed claim to a homestead on Cataract Creek, first living in a tent and later building his log cabin studio. He continued to commute to New York for commercial art assignments, but permanently settled in Colorado in 1933.
Delano earned his reputation as an illustrator for many popular national magazines of the 1930s and 1940s. He sold Western Story Magazine a series of illustrated articles on the development of the West. Delano was among the first Western artists invited to submit paintings to be published on the front cover of Rotogravure section of the Denver Post. From 1947-1973, his works were viewed by thousands in the Sunday edition of the Denver Post causing widespread recognition and popularity.

Previews and Inspections:
Condition reports are available upon request for all lots. We would also be happy to send additional images. All objects are on display at the gallery and available for preview between the hours of 10:30am and 6:00pm
Sales Tax:
Buyers are required to pay any applicable state and local sales tax. If shipped outside of the city and county of Denver and/or the state of Colorado, all applicable state and local use taxes due are the sole responsibility of the buyer.

Payment:
Payment in full is due in full within 20 days following conclusion of the auction.
Under no circumstances does the title ever transfer before the seller receives payment in full.
Returns:
We have made every effort to properly represent all lots. We will provide a limited warranty for a period of 7 days following receipt of the purchase by the bidder. If the buyer is not satisfied that the lot purchased is genuine or the condition is found to be not as stated, David Cook Galleries will offer a full refund (hammer price and buyer’s premium.) After the initial warranty period expires, the seller may request that the buyer obtain the opinion of up to two mutually agreed upon recognized experts in the field of the disputed item; any applicable fees will be at the expense of the buyer. All refunds will be made following return receipt of the item(s) in the same condition as of the time of sale. There shall be no other means of recourse by the buyer other than what is listed above.
