Renowned Colombian artist (born 1932) best known for his distinctive paintings of rotund figures and animals. He attracted worldwide attention in 2005 for his series of paintings depicting the atrocities at Abu Ghraib Prison. Two items: TLS, one onionskin page, 8.5 x 11, April 28, 1980, Botero thanks an admirer. In part: “It is a pleasure to know that my work has excited you. For an artist, the real accomplishment is to be able to communicate with other people through his work.”; and a satin-finish 4.75 x 6.5 satin-finish photo of Botero, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, “To Ben B. Braude. Botero 80.” In overall fine condition, with a strip of vintage tape reinforcing a fold to the letter, affecting his signature. Accompanied by the mailing envelope.
