Extraordinary SA High Leaders Damascus Blade Honor Dagger with Scabbard and Rare Double Chain Hanger

Estimate: $45000 - 60000
This is a nice example of a SA 1938 High Leaders Honor Dagger with a rare double chain suspension hanger scabbard. Beginning in 1935 SA Stabschef Viktor Lutze initiated a series of SA Honor Daggers in recognition of outstanding or meritorious service by SA High Leaders. The development of this high quality, specially designed SA Honor Dagger would account for the lack of Lutze presentation daggers that were of the Rohm variety. The fact that Lutze restricted award of these daggers to SA High Leaders was the single limiting factor in the number of blades manufactured and eventually awarded. In 1938 Lutze ordered that a specially designed dagger be made for award to SA High Leaders. The dagger was the design from his personal dagger made for him in 1937. It had the same Honor pattern. The dagger has a brown dyed wood handle with the national emblem, eagle/swastika in the center and the SA lightning bolt signet at the top. The pommel and cross guard are cast brass which is heavily silver plated and has an oak leaf and acorn pattern. A silver plated tang nut secures the hilt to the Damascus blade. The blade is double edged and 8 3/4 inches long with the raised gold motto "Alles fur Deutschland" (Everything for Germany), flanked by raised gold oak leafs. The opposite side at the hand guard has the gold Carl Eickhorn, Solingen manufacturers marking. With the new designed Honor Dagger was the addition of a chain suspension on the scabbard. The chain has five upper links and seven lower links joined at a snap fastener with a large SA signet on the face. The links are silver plated with a gold raised swastika and each is joined by two small metal links. The chain is attached to the upper and center silver plated scabbard bands by a small swivel ring. The scabbard is metal with a brown pebble grain leather cover, with two silver plated bands and toe. The dagger is complete in a glass top display case with padded purple velvet lining.

Condition: Excellent plus. The silver pommel, tang nut and guard have an aged patina. The handle shows a few small minor dings and pressure dents, as well as a lightly carved "N" at the top and bottom of one side. The blade has a very attractive Damascus pattern and most of the original gold remains on the raised motto and manufacturers mark. The leather on the scabbard is excellent, the silver bands and toe have an aged patina. The chains and snap fastener have a smooth dark patina. A very nice 1938 Damascus blade SA Honor Dagger with a rare double chain hanger scabbard. A must have for any serious Nazi dagger collector.
