Manufactured by Steyr-Daimler for the Nazi SS during World War II. The top of the receiver ring is marked "bnz", the wartime code for Steyr, over "43" with "Mod. 98" marked on the left receiver wall. Additionally, the receiver is marked with the "1" or "L" mark of the Astra Werke factory in Chemnitz, a supplier of receivers for the Gustloff Werke of Suhl. The left rear of the barrel has an "eagle/SS runes ZZA4" followed by the serial number and the right rear of the barrel is marked with the number "41". Hooded ramp front sight and adjustable rear tangent sight graduated to 200 meters. The buttplate is stamped "bpr" over an "eagle/WaW497" proof and the floor plate has an "eagle/WaA623" proof. Matching numbers including bolt assembly (in the proper electric pencil) and stock. Besides the serial number, the stock is also stamped with a correct "K/ SS death head" on the underside. Complete with a leather sling and a "44 fnj" bayonet. Matching number (2611) on bayonet and sheath with a leather frog marked "TIWO / EIDELBER /1942". The finest example of the SS rifle, with an exceptional Dual Code receiver.

Condition: Excellent plus. The rifle retains 99% original blue finish with some minor thinning mostly on the barrel bands and floor plate. The stock is also excellent with the exception of a couple minor gouges contained to the buttstock and a few scattered minor dings. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is also excellent. Appears unissued.
