This Indonesian Buddha head comes from the island of Java and was made of stone. The Hindu Buddhist figure is crafted in the Singhasari style and depicts Buddha with serene expression, half closed eyes and full lips. The latter form a slight smile and illustrate the fine craftsmanship. A precious headdress with floral ornaments is worked in relief. It adorns the head and illustrates Buddha's grandeur.



The Buddha head is in good condition with usual signs of age and wear. Slight loss of material here and there as well as small notches and a restored breaking point at one prong of the crown can be seen. The height of the head measures 44 cm and the width is 30 cm. The height with base is ca. 65 cm and the weight is ca. 40 kg. (lvp)
